In 2006, the Franklin Silver Cornet Band celebrated its 150th anniversary year.
We premiered two new pieces: Franklin Heritage, commissioned by the band from composer Robert Wall; and A Silver Cornet Celebration, created by composer and band member Steve Johnston, based on themes from Rex Mitchell's Silver Cornets march.
We held a contest for the anniversary logo, won by Paul Wittreich and commemorated by an anniversary pin.
We held a special gathering of band members both active and inactive for a dinner at the Elks; many were with us the next night for the Grand Anniversary Concert, which was itself broadcast and recorded by Venango Video.
We traveled to Harrisburg to represent Venango County in the parade marking the centennial of the state capital building.
We also the publication of the band's "biography," Musical Service by band member Peter Greene.
