Charles Brassington
immigrated to the US from Staffordshire, England and became leader of the
Franklin Band shortly after the fire of 1886. By 1897 he was listed in the city
directory as a music teacher.
Brassington was
a cornet player and band leader who led both the band and various other groups
in the area. He played with the Baptist Sunday School Orchestra and led a
regular band at Monarch Park. He stayed with the band almost thirty years until
his retirement in 1917; he was 71 at the time, the last member of the 1886
edition of the band left playing. . He and his wife had one daughter, Ethel,
who married A P Sutter of Franklin.
