Monarch
Park was the Oil Region's premiere amusement park. It belonged to the Citizens
Traction Company and served as a destination park for residents of Venango
County. On many holidays both Franklin and Oil City were empty as thousands of
people went to enjoy the gardens, the dance hall, the bowling alley, and rides
like the Thriller rollercoaster. Of course, it was also a prime location for
bands to play. Many Franklin band musicians played in the "house
bands" that played for the season, but the Franklin Band also appeared
there from time to time. Here the band boys are seen reclining on the steps.
