Articles of Association, or Constitution of the "Franklin Cornett Band"
The Subscribed, Citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, have agreed to associate themselves for the purposes set forth in the folowing articles, and are desirous of acquiring and enjoying the powers and immunity as a Corporation or body politic in law for the furtherance of such purposes.
Article 1st
The Corporation shall be known by the name of "The Franklin Cornett "Band", and shall have full power and authority to make, have and use a [Common] Seal with such device and inscription as they may deem proper, and the same to break, alter and renew at their pleasure, and by the name style and title aforesaid shall be able and capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any Court or Courts, before any Judge or Judges, Justice or Justices, in all manner of suits, complaints, pleas, causes, matters and demands whatsoever and all and every matter or thing therein to do in as full and effectual a manner as any other person or persons, bodies politic or corporate within this Commonwealth may or can do, and to make rules, by laws and ordinances and to do everything needfull for the good government and support of the affairs of the Said Corporation, provided always that the said rules, by laws and ordinances, or any of them be not repugnant to the Constitution or laws of this Commonwealth, or to this charter. And the Managers and their Successors shall be able and capable in law to take and receive, hold and enjoy all and all manner of lands, tenements, rents, annuitys, franchisesand hereditaments, and any sum and sums of money and any manner and portion of goods and chattles, given or bequeathed to them, and to be employed and [discharged] of according to the objects, articles and conditions hereof and according to the articles and by laws of this Corporation and according to the will and intention of the donors, provided always that the clear yearly income of the real and personal state held by this corporation shall not at any time exceed the sum of two thousadn dollars.
2nd
The object of this association is to encourage and foster among the population of the City of Franklin and Venango County, the Spirit of Self improvement in Music, by establishing a musical and reading room, and dispensing music upon all proper private and publiuc occasions, and it shall have the power to purchase land, erect or rent buildings, and perform such other acts as may be necessary to this object.
3rd
The management of this Association shall be invested in a Board Composed of three members thereof to be elected by the Association, on the first Monday of September in each year and until others are chosen, each member thereof being entitled to one vote. The board of managers shall have the power to fill vacancies in their own body, who shall serve until the next succeeding election.
4th
There shall also be elected from said Board, one person to act as Treasurer, who shall be required to give bond in double the amount of money or property in his keeping, and render a Semi-annual account of Cash property, situation and prospects of the Association, and shall at all times keep his books open for inspection by members of the Association, and deliver unto his Successor all books, papers, money and property whatsoever in his hands.
5th
The place of holding meetings for the transaction of all business of the said Franklin Coronet Band, shall be in the City of Franklin, when and where nine members of said Association, two of whom shall be managers of said Association shall establish a quorum.
6th
The said Association shall have the power to receive new members and to fill any vacancies made in said Association by death, resignation, or expulsion of any members by ballow when a vote of two thirds of all the members of said Association shall elect on the payment of initiation or membership fee by applicant as regulated by the by las of said Association.

The said Association shall have power to fine or expell any member or members by ballot and in all cases a vote of two thirds of all the members of said Association shall fine or expel, according to the by laws of said Association.

The said by laws of said Association shall be adopted, changed, or any part of them suspended by a vote of two thirds of all the members of said Association

In the matter of the incorporation of the "Franklin Cornett Band"
And now to wit: July 10, 1873 the within instrument of writing or articles of Corporation of the Franklin Cornett Band being presented to the Court, and the same having been perused and examined, the objects, articles, and conditions therein set forth and contained appearing lawful and not injurious to the Community, the Court do order and direct said writing to be filed in the Office of the Prothonotary of said Court. And it is further ordered that notice be given in the Venango Citizen and Venango Spectator at least three weeks. Setting forth that an application has been made to the Court of Common Pleas of Venango County to grant a Charter of Incorporation to Franklin Cornett Band...
